GRADE 6.1 - Classwork: Grammar: No grammar Literature: Holes: - We continued watching the movie Holes and will finish this on Wednesday. Writing: We went through our Final Wrap lesson to complete any final edits or corrections to our papers. Please be sure to complete their final edits on your essays by checking spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. Also, use ALL of Mrs. Smith's Rules for Writing to finish your editing. This paper is due on Thursday, May 23rd. If you do not have a printer, please email me a copy of your paper no later than Tuesday evening or it will be considered late. Do not use Outlook to email me your paper. Select 'other app' then select the email program we use at school. HOMEWORK: Grammar: None Literature: None, unless absent. See above. Writing: See above under writing and finalize your paper, looking for areas where you can edit for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and dependent clauses used as fragments. Use pg 271, 272, & 273 as your models. BE SURE TO GO THROUGH ALL OF MY WRITING RULES BEFORE YOU PRINT YOUR FINAL PAPER. This final printed draft will be due to me on Thursday, May 23rd. GRADE 6.2 - Classwork: Grammar: No grammar Literature: Holes: - We finished watching the movie Holes Writing: I collected, graded, and returned final drafts of Response to Literature. ***Be sure to get any late/absent work made up and turned in. Email me when you have completed an assignment, or you need an assignment opened in Schoology.
4th Quarter Literature - We will complete our novel study of Holes by Louis Sacchar. This novel study focuses on reading strategies, reading comprehension skills, related literary devices, literary elements, and writing skills. STUDENTS MUST BE READING IN ANOTHER SILENT READING BOOK DAILY! (AT LEAST 15 MINUTES A DAY AT HOME, PLEASE.)
4th Quarter Grammar - We will complete Unit 2 will continue with Unit 3 in grammar skills, which include parts of speech, usage, and conventions.
4th Quarter Writing - Middle school writing will focus on both the Writing Process and the Six Traits of Writing. In our 2nd semester, 6th graders will be writing a Response to Literature, writing about one of their silent reading books as they continue sharpening their writing skills.
