1st Quarter Literature - We will begin our year with a novel study on The Liberation of Gabriel King by K. L. Going. Our novel study focuses on reading strategies, reading comprehension skills, related literary devices, literary elements, and writing skills. Students will be required to have a silent reading book with them at all times, either a hard copy in their backpack or an e-copy on their iPad.
1st Quarter Grammar - We will be working in Unit 1 in grammar with Lessons 1-10, with a focus on Subjects, Predicates, Direct & Indirect Objects, Predicate Nouns & Predicate Adjectives, Prepositional Phrases, Active & Passive Voice, Appositives, Compound and Complex Sentences, Fragments, Run-ons, Comma Splices, and Ramble-ons.
1st Quarter Writing - Middle school writing will focus on both the Writing Process and the Six Traits of Writing. In our 1st quarter, 6th graders will write a personal narrative. We will also strive to improve our conventions in writing and grammar while answering our comprehension questions related to our novels.
