7th Grade Language Arts Classwork and/or Homework Friday, January 18, 2019
We watched part of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" Speech in class today.
Grade 7.1 - Classwork: Grammar: We continued with our Adverbs unit, discussing the difference between an adjective and an adverb. Students completed WS pg 399 individually and we went over answers. Lit: Outsiders - No literature today Writing: Be sure to BRING THE BOOK YOU WILL BE WRITING ABOUT TO CLASS NEXT WEEK! HOMEWORK: Writing: Bring book you will be writing about to class for next week, please. READ FOR 15 MINUTES EACH NIGHT IN YOUR SILENT READING BOOK! Grade 7.2 - Classwork: Grammar: No grammar today. Will begin Tuesday with lesson the difference between adjective & adverb. Lit: Outsiders - Students took a quiz on Chp 1 in Outsiders today. If absent, please see me to make up quiz. Writing: Be sure to BRING THE BOOK YOU WILL BE WRITING ABOUT TO CLASS NEXT WEEK! HOMEWORK: Writing: Bring book you will be writing about to class for next week, please. READ FOR 15 MINUTES EACH NIGHT IN YOUR SILENT READING BOOK! IMPORTANT REMINDERS: Be sure to get any late/absent work made up and turned in. Email me when you have completed an assignment, or you need an assignment opened in Schoology.
3rd Quarter Literature - We will begin a new novel study for our second semester and will be reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This novel study focuses on reading strategies, reading comprehension skills, related literary devices, literary elements, and writing skills. We will continue to hone in on improving our writing skills through short answer comprehension questions. STUDENTS MUST BE READING IN ANOTHER SILENT READING BOOK DAILY! (AT LEAST 15 MINUTES A DAY AT HOME, PLEASE.)
3rd Quarter Grammar - This semester, I will introduce the Oxford-Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop so we can work on building vocabulary to prepare for ITBS tests, and MAPs testing. The second half of this workshop will be completed in 8th grade to prepare for high school vocabulary, placement tests, PSATs and SATs.We will also continue working with Wanda Phillips' Easy Grammar program, focusing on parts of speech and correct usage, which will also enhance writing skills.
3rd Quarter Writing - Middle school writing focuses on both the Writing Process and the Six Traits of Writing. Students have completed a Personal Narrative, and up next will be a Response to Literature, where students will be writing about one of their silent reading books as they continue sharpening their writing skills. Much of the writing students complete in high school honors English classes will be writing responses to the literature they read.
